The anime that created a buzz across the world with its spellbinding figure skating scenes, beautiful animation and an easy to follow storyline is given a green go for the 2nd season. And not only that, fans will be getting a special treat with a feature film coming soon. Read on to find the release details.
Yuri on Ice is a Japanese sports anime television series about figure skating. It follows the story of Yuki Katsuki, a Japanese figure skater, who decides to put his skating career on hold after a crushing defeat in the Grand Prix Final and goes back to his hometown but a set of events eventually brings him back to the skating rink; Victor Nikiforov, a Russian figure skating champion who also happens to be Katsuki’s idol and decides to coach him after seeing Katsuki perfectly imitating one of his skating routines; Yuki Plisetsky, a rising 15-year-old Russian prodigy skater who wants Victor to fulfill his promise of choreographing a routine specifically for him. The story perfectly weaves the elements of figure skating, passion for the sport, dedication, and humor in a beautiful manner that has earned it a solid fan base across the globe.
Yuri on Ice season 2 Plot
The 1st season premiered on October 6, 2016, and ended on December 22, with a total of 12 episodes. Due to the immense goodwill and praise the anime received, the creators have decided to roll out another season in the series. It was expected to come out in the fall of 2020 but will be delayed following the Coronavirus pandemic. Now it is speculated to premiere around mid-2021. We will surely see more of both Yuki’s, and maybe they might even have to compete against Victor. Only the creators know for sure.
And while the fans wait for the 2nd season, they can look forward to the feature film Yuri on Ice: Ice Adolescence, which was set to release in 2019 but was postponed to 2020. The trailer for the same is available and can be viewed here:
